 The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation

The Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation was established to assist young adults in Clarendon, Sumter, Williamsburg, and Lee Counties by providing financial support to help them pursue a college education.

Scholarship funds are administered by the Selection Committee of the Levi Pearson Scholarship Fund, and award amounts are determined based on funds raised through ongoing fundraising efforts.

Please carefully review all scholarship application requirements. All required materials must be uploaded by the deadline.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a resident of SC

  • Must be a graduating senior in good standings

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

  • Must have been accepted to at least one college or university

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Recipients will be selected by a seven (7) panel judging committee. The judges will evaluate   

 eligible students based on, but not limited to the following criteria:

  • Academic Record and Cumulative GPA 

  • Quality of essay and recommendations

  • Community service and leadership background

  • Statement of financial need

  • Submission of all application packet components

  • Interview

Winners will be notified by the Scholarship Foundation Committee ; all decisions are final. No submitted   material will be returned. 

 

All applications not completed in its entirety will not be processed.

THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD DISBURSEMENT

 

 Scholarship awards are to be applied towards tuition, fees, books, supplies and/or equipment required at the educational   institution.  All scholarships will be disbursed directly to the college or university after verification of registration for the

 Fall semester or quarter. If the student is unable to attend in the fall the award will be returned to the scholarship fund.

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

The following information must be submitted as one complete package. (It will not be accepted separately):  

  • Completed application

  • A current official transcript of all high school and college courses taken to date (the seal must appear on transcript).

  • Copy of ACT/SAT Scores

  • A fifteen hundred (1000) word essay: The educational impact of Mr. Levi Pearson and Mr. Hammett Pearson in the 20th Century has significantly impacted the educational system in Clarendon County and the World in the 21st Century. Levi Pearson was a civil rights activist who gave tirelessly to his community to ensure equal rights for school age children in Clarendon County. His courage has made a major impact in the world which led to  Brown v Board. Describe a significant change or experience that has occurred in your life.  How did you respond and what did you learn about yourself from that experience.

  • A copy of the letter of acceptance from the college or university you plan to attend. (Senior Year)

  • Three (3) letters of recommendations are required: teacher, advisor or counselor, community leader or volunteer supervisor, adult mentor, youth minister or Pastor.  All letters must be signed and dated.  See the enclosed Recommendation Form to give to your references to help them in writing the letters.

  • One (1) professional school photograph (3" x 5" preferred, wallet-size accepted). Photos with watermarks will not be accepted

  • Completed application must be uploaded by the deadline to be considered.

 

 

Additional Information

The Levi Pearson Scholarship Committee reserves the right to use the name and/or photograph of scholarship award   recipients in promotional materials designed to increase awareness of the Scholarship Fund, and for soliciting funding  or  advertise fundraising events for the Scholarship Fund. By accepting scholarship awards, recipients agree to the above   statement.
